How the pandemic revitalized Georgetown’s street performance.
For street performers in Georgetown, music is a tool that helps achieve a feeling of community. During the pandemic, their role in bringing life and connection to the Georgetown streets continued and–despite new challenges–became even more important. Now, as mandates and fears are relieved, their relationship with the neighborhood has the potential to thrive. However, it does all rely one thing: whether the two parties can maintain a difficult and delicate equilibrium between sound, performer, and the space that both occupy.
This project was originally created for Georgetown University’s Journalism department. Due to my love for music and my experience in Georgetown , I chose to focus on the interesting relationship between the the two. It was a difficult project, but an outstanding learning experience nonetheless.
